Mounting the radar eye
So mounting the radar eye is a little more complicated than you would think. First, exactly where are you going to mount it. For those that are die hard Artoo-Detoo fans, you know that the location changed from movie to movie and sometimes from scene to scene. I found this video on youtube that will help you decide.
I couldn’t wait to get it attached. You can put all the panels on that you want, but it won’t be Artoo until the radar eye is on. After that it all comes together. I proceeded in a similar manner as the video. I put masking tape on so I could mark where I wanted to drill the holes. It worked pretty well.
I didn’t get pictures, but I used a hanger bolts (google it if you don’t know what they are). I drilled holed at the points marked and acetone welded the bolts in place. After that I merely bolted the radar eye in place. This method of attaching the eye will allow me to move it in the future if I so desire. Next I’ll be working on the holoprojectors and electronics…
